Beautifying Your Brows:

Uncovering The Right Eyebrow Shape for Your Face

Many people look to the eyebrow as something minuscule when it comes to maintaining their appearance. However, eyebrows are the key complement to the eyes. When cleanly shaped, the brows draw attention to the eyes by framing and making them appear larger and more open.

To get beautiful brows, take 10 minutes, gather a good pair of tweezers, a pencil or thin handled makeup brush, a brow brush and brow finishing gel and follow these steps to pluck your way to perfection:

1)    To begin, brush your brows so they are all going in the correct direction and are ready for shaping.

2)    Take a pencil or a thin handled makeup brush and hold it vertically against the side of your nose, noticing where it meets the brow. This point is where your brow should begin. Once lined up, gently pluck away excess hairs that go beyond the pencil towards the middle of the top of your nose.

3)    Next, hold the pencil or makeup brush against your nostril and move it diagonally across the outer half of the iris (coloured part) of your eye. The area where it meets the brow is the best place for the peak of your arch. When tweezing, taper the ling slight thinner toward the peak. This will give you the ideal shape for you.

4)    Lastly, hold the pencil or makeup brush against your nostril and extend it diagonally to the outer corner of your eye. The area where it meets the brow is the best place for your brow end. Finish off the look by tapering the line even thinner from the arch to the end, polishing off the end of the brow.

Here are other helpful tweezing and post-tweezing tips:

  • Invest in quality tools – only use quality tweezers, scissors and a proper pencil or thin handled makeup brush to ensure your brows are plucked to perfection.

  • Tweeze after your shower or apply a warm compress to brows before – the warm water and steam opens the follicles and softens the hair, helping them slip out more easily without discomfort.

  • Use a regular mirror for brow shaping – Magnifying mirrors can trick you and make it look like there is more hair to remove than necessary, leading to overplucking. Use a regular mirror in a well-lit space and keep stepping back during the shaping to see the overall appearance of your brows.

  • Finish off your perfectly shaped brows with an eyebrow gel – eyebrow gels smoothes out the hair and keeps coarse hair from curling
